Take a peek!

Mounting any stage production is a daunting task. Putting together an opera is perhaps the biggest challenge in the performing arts world. Opera Wilmington likes to give its audience members a chance to see how the pieces come together to make an impressive whole.

On Saturday, July 13, from 10 to noon, we’ll give you a tour of three spaces in UNCW’s Cultural Arts Center that become Opera Wilmington’s production hub every summer. You’ll learn about the rehearsal process and a bit about the score of La Bohème in the rehearsal room. You’ll see what our cast will be wearing when you visit with Mark Sorensen in his very busy costume shop. And go onstage with Max Lydy to learn how he plans to bring 1830s Paris to life through his sets.

That’s not all! Members of the cast will be on hand to sample their arias and to answer questions.

It’s free, it’s family friendly and it’s a cool (literally) way to spend your morning in mid-July. We’ll be waiting for you!

To find the MainStage Theatre, click here for UNCW’s campus map. The theatre space is inside UNCW’s Cultural Arts Building (CA on the map), located at the corner of Randall and Reynolds drives. There is ample parking adjoining the building.

Costume designer Mark Sorensen gives “Behind the Scenes” visitors a short course in costume design.

Costumes for Cosi fan tutte take shape.

The cast of Opera Wilmington’s “Cosi fan tutte” pull the pieces together in advance of opening night.
