Traveling to Wilmington to see an Opera Wilmington production?

If you’re visiting Wilmington for an Opera Wilmington production, why not plan to stay a bit longer and enjoy the amenities and attractions of the Cape Fear area? Wilmington and its surrounding beach communities have much to offer in the way of lodging options, restaurants, entertainment and outdoor activities.

Wilmington’s historic downtown – a short drive from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where we stage our summer operas – boasts a range of hotels, bed-and-breakfast establishments, unique eateries and a scenic river walk.

The Battleship North Carolina, one of our area’s primary tourist magnets, is directly across the river from downtown Wilmington.

There are also plenty of hotels and places to eat near campus.

If you are yearning for some beach time, you can visit nearby Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, each of which has its own charm, lodging facilities and memorable restaurants. The beach towns of Brunswick County to the south, and Pender County to the north, also provide opportunities to get your toes into the sand and surf.

Fort Fisher, just south of Kure Beach, is home to the N.C. Aquarium and to Fort Fisher State Historic Site. You can catch the ferry from Fort Fisher to the delightful historic town of Southport, home to a popular state maritime museum. Bald Head Island, accessible by passenger ferry, offers a unique mix of upscale accommodations and vast stretches of nature preserves.
